Similar ovoid storage jars were used throughout the 1700’s. Made of a specially formulated stoneware clay to handle liquids, so they are perfect for pickling as well as for dry storage. These pottery jars were usually covered with a piece of cloth, paper, leather, or bladder. Handthrown by our potter here in Indiana. 6
